Ministry Of Foreign Affairs Immediately Returns 554 Indonesian Citizens Related To Online Scams From Myanmar

The integrated team of the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemlu), the Indonesian Embassy in Bangkok and the Indonesian Embassy in Yangon are seeking to repatriate 554 Indonesian citizens with problems with online fraud from areas of armed conflict in Myawaddy, Myanmar.

According to a press release from the Indonesian Embassy in Bangkok in Jakarta, the team is currently in the border city between Thailand and Myanmar, Maesot, to coordinate with Thai and Myanmar authorities intensively.

Reported by ANTARA, on Friday (14/3) the Indonesian Ambassador in Bangkok, Rachmat Budiman, who was accompanied by the Director of Protection for Indonesian Citizens at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Judha Nugraha, held a special meeting with the Governor of Propinsi Tak, Chucheep Phongchai, and related agencies to discuss preparations and ensure the smooth crossing of Indonesian citizens from Myawaddy, Myanmar, to Maesot, Propinsi Tak, Thailand, as quoted.

The Thai area is used as a repatriation transit for Indonesian citizens, given the security conditions of the Myawaddy-Yangon land route that are not possible.

Governor Tak, with the support of various Thai authorities, expressed his readiness to facilitate the crossing of Indonesian citizens from Myawaddy to Maesot and ensure escorts to Bangkok to be flown to Jakarta.

Thai authorities will also carry out a National Reference Mechanism process for identification of victims of TIP and also health checks and immigration.

All 554 Indonesian citizens are planned to arrive gradually at Soekarno-Hatta Airport on March 18 and 19, 2025. Then they will undergo the interview process, including rehabilitation and reintegration.

Meanwhile, the Coordinating Ministry for Political and Security Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia (Kemenko Polkam) and the Coordinating Ministry for Community Empowerment coordinate across Ministries/Agencies for the process of arrival to repatriation to their respective areas of origin.
