Gus Ipul Calls People's Schools Will Use ASN Teachers

JAKARTA - The Indonesian government is currently continuing to finalize the People's School Program which will be launched in the near future. Where all parties have coordinated the tasks that have been carried out.

"All teams have held coordination meetings. There are several teams, there are teams for curriculum, recruiting teachers, there are teams for infrastructure," said Minister of Social Affairs (Mensos) Saifullah Yusuf (Gus Ipul) quoting Antara.

Gus Ipul also added that for the recruitment of teaching staff for Public Schools, the government would take teaching staff from ASN (State Civil Apparatus) teachers.

"ASNs who meet the requirements will be tested again for those who have passed the PBG (Student Learning Center) test, will be retested and placement is adjusted to their place of residence," he explained.

The Minister of Social Affairs also mentioned that in the next stage, teaching staff who have passed the selection will receive more special education before they teach at the People's School.

"The recruitment team is led by Prof. Nuh (former Minister of National Education 2009-2014 Mohammad Nuh). We also have a team from the Ministry of Education and Culture, from Dikti (Kemdiktisaintek) as well. Some experts are indeed asked to assist us," he said.

Regarding the mechanism for selecting prospective People's School students, Gus Ipul said that there are several stages that prospective students will go through.

"First, he must be in decile 1 or 2 on DTSEN (National Socio-Economic Integrated Data), there are criteria. Then there will be the next stage later. It has been compiled," he explained.

The Minister of Social Affairs also mentioned that in the recruitment of prospective students, there will be several conditions that must be met to ensure that the People's School program is followed completely by students. This is to avoid the possibility of children dropping out of school in the middle of the road.

Therefore, the recruitment of students will be prioritized for children around the location of the People's School.

Furthermore, Gus Ipul said that if referring to the planning that had been made, the students who would attend the People's School would go through the orientation stage first.

According to him, until now collaboration with local governments has also been going well. In fact, not a few regions have proposed several locations for the prospective People's School to be established.

"For example, East Java, almost all regencies/cities have submitted. We are waiting for several other provinces as well," said Gus Ipul.

It is known that the Ri Government has launched the establishment of a People's School that will target students from extreme poor and poor families contained in DTSEN. The People's School established with the concept of free boarding school so that all school fees, meals, and dormitories will be borne by the state. The People's School is designed to produce students into agents of change that can change the welfare level of their families.

People's Schools cover elementary to high school levels with a curriculum that includes formal education and character education. People's Schools are trying to prepare Indonesian human resources who are ready to compete to continue their education to higher education. This is a form of glorifying the poor and facilitating the rise of wong cilik so that the transmission of intergenerational poverty can be cut off.
