Head of the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Dwikorita Karnawati said that high rainfall is expected to continue until the second week of March 2025.
He asked the public to remain vigilant against potential flooding and also the alertness of regional heads to respond to this condition.
"Yesterday, the highest rainfall reached 232 millimeters in 24 hours. We predict that until March 11, 2025, we still need high vigilance, because even though there is a slight decrease, the intensity of rain will increase again," explained Dwikorita.
According to him, regional readiness in responding to early warnings still needs to be increased in order to reduce the impact of disasters that can threaten public safety.
"The role and the local government in disaster mitigation is crucial, especially in ensuring that every early warning is followed up with anticipatory steps in the field," he added.
As a mitigation measure, BMKG cooperates with the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) in weather modification operations. BMKG will implement weather modification technology and determine operating points to reduce the intensity of rain in flood-prone areas.

This weather modification is focused on West Java, especially mountainous areas and the Puncak area which is often a source of flooding.
"The most vulnerable areas in West Java are mountainous and Puncak areas, because rain clouds formed there can be a source of flooding that flows downstream, including to Jakarta," concluded Dwikorita.
