JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung ordered the Water Resources Service (SDA) to open more floodgates in Jakarta. The opening of floodgates is intended so that floods that inundate a number of points can recede immediately, especially in residential areas along the riverbanks.

This was revealed by Pramono after reviewing the condition of the water level at the Manggarai Water Gate and receiving reports of the condition of other floodgates.

"I have asked Mrs. Ika (Plt Head of the Natural Resources Service) who is responsible for arranging the existing floodgates to start opening so that the burden is not more to the east, especially to Ciliwung," said Pramono at Manggarai Water Gate, South Jakarta, Tuesday, March 4.

Some of the floodgates that Pramono asked to open include three floodgates to the West Flood Canal as high as 800 centimeters, a floodgate to the Istiqlal Mosque up to 400 centimeters, to the Red Bridge floodgate to 300 centimeters.

Pramono hopes that the opening of more floodgates will not increase Jakarta's flood points.

"Regions that are likely with this decision or policy that hopefully the impact we can manage are Pegangsaan, Kenari, Cikini, Kwitang, Kebon Sirih, Senen, Gambir, Pasar Baru, Kebon Kelapa, Kartini, Mangga Dua Selatan, Pademangan, Mangga Besar, and Pinangsia," he explained.

In addition, Pramono also instructed his staff to activate all pumps, both mobile and stationary pompoa, to encourage floodwater to the sea faster.

"Pumps at 200 points, totaling 500 pumps, I ask that all of them be activated because so that the existing water can be thrown into the sea immediately," explained Pramono.

As is known, the DKI Jakarta BPBD recorded 122 RTs in Jakarta being flooded due to rains that hit the Bogor area on Sunday, March 2 and heavy rains in Jakarta on Monday, March 3. The worst condition in Gedong Village with water levels reached 5 meters on Tuesday, March 4 afternoon.

Extreme rainfall also caused several rivers to overflow, such as the Ciliwung River, Pesanggrahan River, Krukut River, to Grogol River. The worst flood point was in settlements near the overflowing riverbanks.
