This Afternoon, Thousands of Ojol Will Hold a Protest at the Horse Statue, Here Are Their 3 Demands

JAKARTA - Thousands of online motorcycle taxis (Ojol) throughout Jabodetabek will hold a demonstration in the Horse Statue area, Monas, Central Jakarta on Thursday, February 27, afternoon.

In this action, the demonstrators from Ojol carry the theme "OJOL ACTION 272". Meanwhile, the demonstration is scheduled to start at 13.00 Western Indonesian Time (WIB).

The General Chairperson of the Indonesian Transportation and Online Service Drivers Association, Raden Igun Wicaksono said that the government as an institution that makes regulations regarding online motorcycle taxi rates and online motorcycle taxi application fee deductions was rendered powerless by two foreign platform companies that do business and invest in Indonesia.

Raden Igun deeply regrets that the government does not dare and does not have the power to impose strict sanctions on the two foreign platforms that have exploited their partners, both online drivers and online merchants.

One form of regulatory violation referred to by the Association is in the application fee deductions. In the Decree of the Minister of Transportation Kepmenhub KP Number 1001 of 2022, the regulation states that the maximum application fee deduction is 20%, but the fact is that online drivers are being deducted application fees of up to almost 50%.

"Not to mention the existence of promo schemes or cheap meters that violate tariff regulations such as the Aceng (Argo Goceng) and Slot scheme options that cut the tariffs received by drivers," said Raden Igun in his statement, Thursday, February 27.

In this demonstration, Raden Igun said he would bring 3 other demands in the "OJOL ACTION 272" demonstration.

"The first demand is for the government to impose strict sanctions on application companies that violate regulations. Second, revise the application fee deduction from 20% to a maximum of 10%," he said.

Then the third demand is to eliminate promo program schemes that are detrimental to ojol drivers such as Aceng, Slot and the like.

"The association demands that the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, intervene by giving strict sanctions to platforms or application companies that violate this regulation. Because none of his Ministry ranks are able to give strict sanctions and are powerless to enforce regulations against application companies that violate regulations," he requested.

Meanwhile, today's Ojol demonstration will be guarded by hundreds of joint police officers from the Polda Metro Jaya and Polres Metro Central Jakarta.

Head of Public Relations for the Central Jakarta Metro Police, Ipda Ruslan said that the Central Jakarta Metro Police deployed almost a thousand personnel to secure the demonstration by online motorcycle taxis in the Monas Horse Statue area, Central Jakarta.

"A total of 892 personnel from the Central Jakarta Metro Police were deployed to secure the demonstration in the Horse Statue area," he told VOI.
