JAKARTA - Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Monday Russia was ready to negotiate with anyone, including Ukraine and Europe to make peace, ready to stop the war if it produced clear and sustainable results.
That was said by Foreign Minister Lavrov after meeting with his team Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan in Ankara on Monday.
"We are ready to negotiate with Ukraine, Europe, and any representative who wants to help achieve peace in good faith, but we will stop fighting only if these negotiations produce firm and sustainable results in accordance with the Russian Federation," Foreign Minister Lavrov said, quoted from Anadolu February 25.
He warned Russia had several times announced a ceasefire, but Ukraine used it to strengthen its position.
The senior diplomat said deals with Ukraine had been reached in negotiations in Istanbul, Turkey in April 2022, but former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson blocked it and the West prevented its implementation from weakening Russia.
Foreign Minister Fidan himself on the occasion said Turkey's readiness to support various peace measures in the conflict in Ukraine, including hosting negotiations between the two warring countries.
On the same occasion, Foreign Minister Lavrov said Russia and the United States would resume talks this weekend, after last week meeting in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
He said full Russian-US talks would be held this week to address obstacles in the operation of diplomatic missions.
According to Foreign Minister Lavrov, Moscow expects the appointment of US representatives to negotiate with Russia over resolving the Ukraine conflict.
