2 North Sumatra UMTS Students Tricked Colleagues Up To IDR 1.2 Billion

PADANGSIDIMPUAN - Two students in Padangsidimpuan City, North Sumatra (North Sumatra), were arrested by the Satreskrim Padangsidimpuan Police after being proven to have fraudulent tuition payments against a number of students at Muhammadiyah University, South Tapanuli (UMTS). They claimed to be bank employees and offered tuition payments without queuing.

As a result of this fraud, the university suffered a loss of Rp 1.2 billion. The two perpetrators arrested were Nanda Musandi Lubis (25) and Muhammad Andrian, residents of Simpang Selatan District, Padangsidimpuan City. They are students from the same campus as the victims.

The suspects, who are also Padangsidimpuan UMTS students, were secured at Jalan Letjend Suprapto, Padangsidimpuan, without a fight. They use the mode of fake bank employees, offer tuition payments practically, then provide evidence of fake payments to the campus.

"The suspect printed a fake bank payment slip with a bank stamp to make it look original," said Padangsidimpuan Police Chief, AKBP Wira Prayatna, last Sunday.

This fraud was uncovered after the UMTS financial administration verified the payment slip to Bank BNI. As a result, the data provided did not match the bank's official record.

After receiving reports from students, the police immediately conducted an investigation and arrested the two suspects on February 19, 2025.

From their hands, the police confiscated a number of pieces of evidence, including one computer unit, one BNI Bank payment resi block, one BNI Bank stamp, one cell phone, IDR 3 million in cash, and one motorcycle.

The results of the investigation showed that the money from the fraud was used by two Padangsidimpuan UMTS students to play online gambling, buy goods, and focus.

Now, the two suspects are in the Padangsidimpuan Police detention cell. They were charged with articles on fraud, with the threat of a sentence of more than 5 years in prison.
