JAKARTA - President Volodymyr Zelensky believes it is important that the support of Britain and the Ukrainian people will never forget it, as Prime Minister Keri Starmer expressed support when the two spoke on the phone.
The conversation between the two leaders by telephone took place on Wednesday.
"The Prime Minister spoke with President Zelensky tonight and stressed the need for everyone to work together," said a statement issued by PM Starmer's office after the phone call.
"The Prime Minister expressed his support for President Zelensky as the democratically elected leader of Ukraine and said it made great sense to postpone elections during the war period as Britain did during World War II," the statement continued.
Earlier, President Trump said President Zelensky as "a dictator without general elections", suggesting Kyiv leaders should move quickly to secure peace or he will not have a remaining country.
The comments do not refer directly to what President Trump said.
On Tuesday, the US and Russian delegations met in Saudi Arabia to discuss measures to end the Russian-Ukraine war that broke out in 2022.
"The Prime Minister reaffirms its support for US-led efforts to achieve lasting peace in Ukraine that hinders Russia from aggression in the future," the UK PM's office said in a statement.
