Puan Maharani Discusses Issues Of Women And World Peace In Abu Dhabi

JAKARTA - Chairman of the Indonesian House of Representatives Puan Maharani with the 5th President of the Republic of Indonesia Megawati Soekarnoputri met with the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Sheikh Khaled Bin Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan. During the meeting, Puan voiced ideas about women and the importance of world peace.

The meeting took place at Sea Palace Abu Dhabi, UAE, on Saturday, February 15, 2025, evening local time. Crown Prince Abu Dhabi welcomed Puan and Megawati accompanied by a number of high-ranking UAE officials.

"Last night, we met HH Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince and future regular of the UAE," said Puan, Sunday, February 16.

During the meeting, Puan expressed her appreciation for the warm welcome from Prince Khaled. He was seen wearing a batik patterned hijab and chocolate hijab during a dialogue with the eldest son of the UAE President, Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Puan and Megawati discussed various important issues at the meeting, including the role of women in social and political life.

"We talked about many things, including women's issues," explained Puan.

Member of the Indonesian House of Representatives from the PDI-P faction, Ahmad Basarah, who was also present at the meeting, explained that Puan highlighted the condition of women and children who often became victims of armed conflict.

"Women and children have always been victims of war between countries and internal conflicts in one country," said Basarah.

In addition, Puan also emphasized the importance of women's role in international government and institutions.

"Conveying ideas about the importance of women's role in state functions and international institutions," added Basarah.

Furthermore, Puan invited Prince Khaled to help echo the issue of world peace and protection for women and children.

"Mbak Puan invites Prince Khaled and national figures in the UAE to echo the issue of world peace, protection of children and women, as well as empowering women," Basarah explained.

He added that Puan believed that if the UAE leader also voiced the issue, the echo would be wider and have a positive impact on the progress of world civilization.
