JAKARTA - The unpleasant smell at the Jakarta Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) Plant modern waste processing facility, which was felt by residents of Rorotan, North Jakarta during the pre-testing of the system and equipment at the end of last week, has been overcome.

"All odor control systems have been refined and are ready to operate optimally to ensure the RDF Plant runs without negative impact on the surrounding community," said Project Manager for the Development of the Jakarta RDF Plant KSO Wika-Jaya Konstruksi Angga Bagus in a statement reported by ANTARA, Thursday, February 13.

He explained that the smell that had arisen was due to the setup of the Advanced Oxidation Process (AOP) unit or the oxidation process in the deodorizer (missing the smell) not yet fully operational.

However, currently the entire system has been running perfectly and is ready to operate optimally.

Angga ensured that similar incidents would not be repeated in the future.

On a different occasion, the Head of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Environment Agency, Asep Kuswanto, said that the Jakarta RDF Plant is equipped with a odor control system, including a deodorizer with ozone technology.

The facility is also equipped with ultraviolet light sterilization capable of neutralizing odors, such as ammonia and hydrogen sulfide through the oxidation process.

"In addition, active carbon filters are also used to absorb the remaining odor particles," he said.

In addition to the deodorizer system, Asep continued, RDF Plant is also equipped with cyclone technology and wet scrubs to filter air or smoke from the combustion before being released into the environment.

These two technologies ensure that the air coming out of the facility has been neutralized, so that it does not cause odors and emissions that endanger the environment.

To maintain cleanliness and ensure that the Jakarta RDF Plant operates according to standards, there is Wastewater Processing Installation (IPAL) equipped with anualization tank, coagulation tanks, floculation and sedimentation, as well as anaerobic ponds and sand filtration tanks.

This is so that operational wastewater can be used again for truck laundering and plant watering around the facility.

The Jakarta RDF Plant, which is ready to operate, is said to be a solution in overcoming the waste problem in Jakarta. This is because this facility is able to process up to 2,500 tons of waste per day.
