JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has been asked to professionally handle allegations of bribery in the management of interim replacement (PAW) members of the Indonesian House of Representatives and the obstruction of the investigation that ensnared PDIP Secretary General Hasto Kristiyanto. Everyone has the same position in the eyes of the law.

"Of course the KPK's support is related that the law, or the community, or the law, does not discriminate against people or citizens related to the cases involved. This means that citizens are the same in the eyes of anyone's law," said Andalas University Professor Asrinaldi when contacted by reporters, Wednesday, February 12.

Indiscriminately, continued Asrinaldi, the anti-corruption commission can also eliminate negative public opinion about law enforcement in Indonesia. Thus, the case against Hasto must be handled without fear of intervention.

"Don't let people think, because people in power and then the law can be played with, the law can sort out which ones should be punished depending on the power," he said.

"This is what should be avoided and the public must be answered for their concerns with this matter," added Asrinaldi.

The KPK is currently facing a pretrial lawsuit filed by Hasto's camp at the South Jakarta District Court (PN). He did not accept being named a suspect.

The verdict on the lawsuit will be read out on Thursday, February 13.

The KPK developed an interim replacement bribery (PAW) case that ensnared former KPU commissioner Wahyu Setiawan and his fugitive, Harun Masiku. Two people were later named as suspects, namely PDIP Secretary General Hasto Kristiyanto and Donny Tri Istiqomah who are PDIP cadres as well as lawyers.

It didn't stop there, Hasto was also a suspect in the obstruction of the investigation. He is suspected of trying to obstruct the legal process, one of which is by asking Harun to damage his cellphone and run away after the hand arrest operation (OTT) was carried out.
