PONOROGO - The maternal mortality rate (AKI) in the Ponorogo area is still high. To reduce this figure, the Ponorogo District Health Office, East Java made intensive efforts.

Head of the Ponorogo Health Office, Dyah Ayu Puspitaningarti, Sunday, revealed that throughout 2024 there were eleven cases of maternal mortality, an increase compared to the previous year which was only eight cases.

Participation diseases such as heart disease, cancer, diabetes, and hypertension are the main factors that cause death, not bleeding after giving birth.

"Scringing is done from the age of a teenager, prospective bride, to pregnancy. Every pregnant woman is accompanied specifically by name by address. This assistance involves health cadres, PKK, and students so that all parties move together," Dyah Ayu explained, quoting ANTARA, February 9.

He added that cross-sectoral collaboration is the main key in preventing AKI.

In addition to health service facilities (fasyankes), the Ponorogo Health Office also cooperates with the village government through the Primary Service Integration Program (ILP).

This program ensures pregnant women get comprehensive health services from an early age.

"We have entered since the initial screening to ensure pregnant women stay healthy, so that the baby born is healthy," he said.

Through these efforts, Dyah Ayu hopes that various comorbidities that have the potential to cause maternal deaths can be detected and treated early.

"If the mother's condition is healthy, the baby that is born will be healthy," he added.

With the strengthening of the screening and mentoring system, the Ponorogo Health Office is optimistic that the maternal mortality rate can be significantly reduced in the future.

"We hope that these steps will be able to reduce the number of MMR in the future," said Dyah Ayu.
