Trump's Tariff Policy Responds Strongly To PM Trudeau White House: Canada Salah Kaprah Considers The Trade War

JAKARTA - The White House is observing Mexico's "serious" response to US President Donald Trump's executive orders regarding tariffs.

But Canada has "misunderstood" by throwing the term trade war between neighboring countries. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau previously planned to retaliate against the US for Trump's policy of implementing high tariffs for America.

Trump on Saturday last week ordered the massive tariff on goods from Mexico, Canada, and China.

The US has demanded that these countries stop the flow of illegal fentanyl and immigrants into the US, sparking trade wars that could hinder global growth and trigger inflation.

"The good news is that in our conversation over the weekend, one of the things we pay attention to is that the Mexican people are very, very serious in doing what President Trump, Kevin Hassett, director of the White House National Economic Council reported by Reuters from CNBC, Monday, February 3.

Canadians seem to misunderstand the executive order and they interpret it as a trade war," Hassett continued

When asked what Canada and Mexico should do to lift the announced 25% tariff, Trump told reporters on Sunday the countries "had to balance their trade, the first."

"They have to stop people from entering our country. They have to stop those who enter, and we have to stop fentanyl. And that includes China," Trump said, announcing an additional 10% tariff for Chinese goods.

Trump also said tariffs against America's three largest trading partners, which took effect on Tuesday, may cause losses to Americans in the short term.

However, in the long term, the United States is said to have been deceived by almost all countries in the world.

Trump also indicated 27 EU countries would be the next targets, but he did not say when that would happen.

Hasett, when asked if Trump's policy would create more inflation, said related parties needed to look at all presidential policies at the same time.

"I think this will be one of the biggest positive surprises in terms of supply we've ever seen," he said.
