BMKG Asks Residents Of The West Coast Of Aceh To Be Alert To Flood Threats And Landslides Until The End Of January

JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) appealed to people in the western coast of Aceh to be aware of the potential for hydrometeorological disasters until the end of January 2025.

"The continuous potential for rain can cause hydrometeorological disasters such as floods and landslides," said Meulaboh-Nagan Raya BMKG Station forecaster Almira Aprilianti when contacted, Monday, January 27 evening, was confiscated by Antara.

BMKG predicts that until the end of January the Aceh region will still be in the rainy season period, plus in the last few days there have been shearline areas or wind turns that have added to convective activity that causes rain on the west coast of Aceh.

Almira said rain with light to moderate intensity still has the potential to occur until the end of January 2025.

"Rain until the next few days is still predicted to fall, especially in the afternoon until the evening," he said.

This can have an impact on community activities outside, especially those who will travel to tourist attractions considering that the end of January is a long holiday.

The BMKG also appealed to people who would travel to be vigilant in the event of rain accompanied by lightning, because it is better to take shelter under buildings or in safer places.

"We urge the public to be careful and alert to the potential for rain with light to moderate intensity which can be accompanied by lightning and strong winds," he said.

He also appealed to people who would travel outside their homes to always prioritize safety.
