Indonesia Strongly Condemns Israeli Military Operations In Jenin, West Bank

JAKARTA - The Indonesian government strongly condemns the massive military operation carried out by Israel against Palestinians in Jenin, the West Bank, which has the potential to threaten the prospect of peace after a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.

Indonesia sees the escalation of violence in the West Bank as revealing Israel's covert intention to continue to undermine the territory and continue their occupation of Palestinian soil.

Israel's international law violations show its main intention: Making its illegal occupation permanent in the Palestinian territories, according to a statement by the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemlu) through social media X on Saturday.

Indonesia views the root cause of the conflict from the start as Israel's refusal to recognize the rights of the Palestinian people to determine their own destiny.

For this reason, Indonesia always urges the international community to take firm action against the injustice suffered by the Palestinian people and work together to create an independent and sovereign Palestinian state in accordance with the principles of a two-state solution.

After a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip began on January 19, Israel actually launched an attack on Jenin and Jenin refugee camps in the Palestinian West Bank region on Tuesday (21/1), which further spread to surrounding villages on the fourth day of the attack.

The sound of gunfire and explosions was heard as Israeli bulldozers destroyed infrastructure and shops in the camp, witnesses said, as reported by Anadolu.

The Israeli military operation has claimed the lives of at least 12 people and injured more than 40 others, according to Palestinian authorities.

It is estimated that 3,000 families have fled in Jenin refugee camps over the past two months, including several hundred others that have been included in the past week.

Israeli media reported that the operation was the leader Benjamin Netanyahu's attempt to convince Israeli financial authority official Bezalel Smotrich against a ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip to stay in government.
