JAKARTA - First Lady Kim Keon-hee's health condition declined and lived alone at the presidential residence in Hannam-dong, Seoul, after her husband, South Korean president, whom Yoon Suk-yeol impeached, was detained, following last month's military emergency, according to a ruling party official Friday.
"I saw the First Lady. Her face looked terrible. I feel sorry for her," said ruling member of the People's Power Party (PPP) MP Kwon Young-jin, who visited Yoon's residence before his detention.
Kwon is one of about 30 ruling party lawmakers who gathered in front of the president's residence to obstruct the execution of his detention warrant for questioning on charges of rebellion. He met Yoon before he was detained after hours of stalemate.
Meanwhile, an official at the presidential office told JoongAng Ilbo, "Kim Keon Hee got so thin that it worried us. He's really thin dry."
According to the newspaper, several aides even suggested, "I think the first lady should go to the hospital."
The detention warrant for the president was carried out on Wednesday, leaving Kim alone at the official residence. He will remain there until Yoon's impeachment trial is over at the Constitutional Court.
Many ruling party figures have reportedly met Kim at the official residence after the military emergency chaos expressed concern about her health. They explained that she could barely eat and had managed her condition by taking various drugs.
Kim has rarely been seen in public since he was investigated by prosecutors in July last year over allegations of receiving luxury bags and involvement in a stock manipulation scheme.
