JAKARTA - Jakarta is again hosting the Jakarta E-Prix or Formula E this year. In the official calendar of ABB FIA Formula E, the electric car racing event which will be held for the third time in Jakarta is scheduled to take place on June 21, 2025.

Chairman of the Indonesian Motor Association (IMI) Bambang Soesatyo (Bamsoet) said that the experience of Formula E which was held in 2022 and 2023 became the main capital to bring the Jakarta E-Prix 2025 to a higher level.

"With experience and support from various parties, we are optimistic that this year's implementation will be better, more attractive, and give pride to Jakarta as a global city," said Bamsoet in his statement, Friday, January 17.

Meanwhile, Jakarta E-Prix 2025 Project Director, Deni Rifky Purwana, emphasized that this event was more than just a race.

"This is a commitment for us Jakpro to strengthen Jakarta's position as a global city as well as support the sustainability campaign," said Deni.

This year's Formula E is said to have brought the launch of a new racing car, Gen 3 Evo, whose acceleration is now capable of exceeding the speed of the Formula 1 car.

The Gen 3 Evo race car is designed with acceleration from 0-60 miles/hour in 1.82 seconds, Gen 3 Evo not only fast but also reflecting the future of sustainable mobility.

Other innovations, such as all-wheel-drive (AWD) technology, are said to make this car more stable and powerful, and answer the need for a more competitive racing experience.

"With electric vehicle technology like the one used in Jakarta E-Prix, Indonesia has a great opportunity to lead the transformation towards renewable energy," he explained.

Jakarta is actually scheduled to hold a Formula E race at the Ancol E-Prix International Circuit on June 8, 2024. However, the schedule collided with the stages of the 2024 General Election and the 2024 Pilkada.

Thus, PT Jakarta Propertindo (Jakpro) as the organizer of the BUMD proposed to Formula E Operation (FEO) that the third year of Formula E in Jakarta be held in 2025.
