Hasto To PDIP Cadres Ahead Of KPK Examination: Stay Calm, This Is Part Of The Struggle

JAKARTA - Secretary General of the PDI-P (PDIP) Hasto Kristiyanto appealed to all his party cadres to remain calm and not to overreact to the current situation, including when he was being investigated by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).

This statement was made by Hasto before undergoing examination at the KPK's Red and White Building, Kuningan Persada, South Jakarta, Monday, January 13. He was examined as a suspect in the alleged bribery case for the management of interim replacement (PAW) members of the Indonesian House of Representatives and the obstruction of the investigation.

"We ask for prayers from all of them, and we appeal to all party sympathizers, members, and cadres to remain calm," Hasto told reporters at the location.

Hasto emphasized that his presence to fulfill the KPK's call was a form of struggle. "We remain firm in our principles and political beliefs. The PDI-P is a party with a firm bull character," he said.

Furthermore, Hasto expressed his readiness to provide information to investigators. This attitude, according to him, is a form of example inherited by the First President of the Republic of Indonesia Soekarno (Bung Karno) and the General Chairperson of the PDIP as well as the 5th President of the Republic of Indonesia Megawati Soekarnoputri.

"We are here with full responsibility and ready to follow the entire legal process," he added.

Hasto arrived at the KPK's Red and White Building at around 09.30 WIB. Based on observations at the location, he used a red and white bus accompanied by a team of attorneys, including the Chairman of the PDIP DPP for Legal Reform Ronny B. Talapessy and Maqdir Ismail.

Previously, the KPK developed a case of alleged bribery related to the interim replacement (PAW) of DPR members involving former KPU commissioner Wahyu Setiawan and his fugitive, Harun Masiku.

In its development, two people were named as new suspects, namely Hasto Kristiyanto and Donny Tri Istiqomah, a PDIP cadre as well as a lawyer.

Hasto is also a suspect in the obstruction case of the investigation. He is suspected of obstructing the legal process by asking Harun Masiku to damage his cellphone and run away after the arrest operation (OTT) was carried out.

On Monday, January 6, Hasto was summoned to be questioned as a suspect, but he asked for a postponement for attending a series of PDIP Anniversary events that had been previously scheduled.
