JAKARTA - The Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, is the sole candidate for the General Chairperson (Ketum) of the Indonesian Athletic Association (PB PASI) for the period 2021-2025. He has the chance to be elected by acclamation.

PB PASI spokesperson Hendri Firzani said, as of Friday, January 22 evening, a total of 31 provincial administrators (pengprov) had expressed support for Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan.

"Candidates for the general chairman have pursued one name, namely the Coordinating Minister for Luhut, with 31 provincial officials already expressing their support. So it is possible that Monday's election will take place by acclamation," said Hendri.

Luhut, according to Hendri, is one step away from becoming the Head of PB PASI although not all provincial officials have expressed their support for the single candidate.

"Pengprov as voters, a total of 34 pengprov and only three who have not decided. Even if someone abstained or did not vote until the closing (munas), Coordinating Minister Luhut still became a ketum because his support exceeded 50 percent of the votes plus one," said Hendri.

For the preparation of the PB PASI National Conference which will take place on Monday, January 25, Hendri stated that all preparations are in accordance with the stages, including the provincial government officials who confirm the success of the agenda.

The election of this general chairman will be a new chapter for the journey and projection of achievements in the field of national athletics going forward.

Previously PB PASI was led by Bob Hasan, who had been active since 1979 until his death in 2020.

During Bob Hasan's 41 years, Indonesian athletics has reaped many achievements both at the regional and world levels.

Therefore, in the next leadership period, new leaders are also required to be able to maintain or even improve Indonesia's athletic achievements in the world arena.
