Sad News From Sukabumi, Grocery Kiosk Burned Entirely, No Items Saved

JAKARTA - The house as well as a wholesale kiosk for nine basic necessities (sembako) in Cikeong Village, Cimanggu Village, Palabuhanratu District, Sukabumi Regency, West Java, was burned entirely after a fire burned the entire building on Sunday.

"There were no casualties in the fire incident that occurred in Cimanggu Village, Palabuhanratu District, but the kiosk owner was unable to save items such as basic necessities and others from the house that was used as a place of business," said the Manager of the Operations Control Center of the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Sukabumi Regency Nanang Sudrajat in Sukabumi, reported by Antara, Sunday, October 31.

Information compiled from BPBD, the fire that caused this fire first emerged from the electrical contact stock installed on the front wall of the kiosk. This flammable building material causes the fire to quickly spread.

Ojeh (57 years old), a local resident whose house is not far from the scene of the incident, saw a fire that continued to spread, burning the kiosk that served as a storage and sale place for Salekhan's basic needs, rushed to alert the sleeping stall owner.

The owner of the place of business immediately left the house, the fire was getting bigger and burned the entire building and its contents so that the victim could not save the property in his house.

Not only basic necessities, three motorbikes and a car that owned the kiosk were also burned. Local residents who saw the incident tried to put out the fire with makeshift tools but to no avail.

Not long after, two fire engines from Palabuhanratu arrived at the location, and only about an hour later the fire was extinguished. After the fire was completely extinguished, the stall owner could only be stunned to see all his goods were charred and could no longer be used.

"The loss suffered by the victim due to this fire is estimated at more than Rp200 million, a provisional assumption is that this disaster was caused by an electrical short circuit which sparked a flammable part of the kiosk so that the fire grew and spread throughout the building," added the Manager of the BPBD Operations Control Center, Sukabumi Regency, Nanang Sudrajat.
