Low Vaccination, COVID-19 Number In Bulgaria Skyrockets Touching 96,797 Cases

JAKARTA - The number of active COVID-19 cases in Bulgaria touched a record 96,797 cases. The local health ministry stated that every day there were 5,256 new cases added.

As of Saturday, October 30 today, the total cases in Bulgaria touched 598,199 cases. This was quoted from Xinhua via Antara.

Meanwhile, the number of recovered cases increased by 1,581 to 477,530 and the death toll rose to 23,872 from 23,718 on the previous day.

The Ministry of Health added that currently there are 7,680 inpatients and 676 patients in the intensive care room (ICU).

On the same day, 23,164 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been injected in the last 24 hours, bringing the total to about 2.85 million doses.

According to the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control, only 25.5 percent of the adult population in Bulgaria have received the full COVID-19 vaccine. Bulgaria is ranked bottom in the European Union.

Bulgarian authorities last week made mandatory COVID-19 green passes for all adults who wish to access a number of services, places, and activities.

If the green pass rules fail to apply, "the only alternative is to keep the lockdown in place", Health Minister Stoycho Katsarov said on Friday.
