TikTok Tries New Tip Feature, Creator's Content Gets More Harvest!

JAKARTA - TikTok is a social media that makes it easy for content creators to earn money, and now the company is testing a new tip feature. Allows users to tip directly through their profile.

Previously, TikTok had allowed its most popular users to receive tips while streaming live. The existence of this feature was first discovered by TikTok creator Jera Bean.

Bean shared a video showing the feature and has applied for approval to get a tip button on their profile page. Tips given to content creators are not deducted by commission fees by TikTok.

It's not known for sure if TikTok plans to take commissions from content creator tips in the future if the feature progresses past the testing phase, but it looks likely to be the case.

However, there are some rules that require content creators to use this feature. This includes, accounts must be in good standing with at least 100,000 followers, meet the age requirements, and agree to TikTok's tipping requirements. Now TikTok is testing the feature for a limited number of users.

"We're always thinking of new ways to bring value to our community and enrich the TikTok experience," a company spokesperson told TechCrunch, Friday, October 29.

For your information, this feature is TikTok's latest push towards monetization capabilities and helps content creators make a living through its platform. Last year, the company introduced a $200 million fund aimed at helping content creators in the US increase their income.

The short-form video app also helps content creators sign brand partnerships, sponsorship deals and also provides monetization for live streaming. It's no surprise that companies are experimenting with ways for content creators to directly receive money from their followers.

Unfortunately, TikTok is not the pioneer of this feature. There is also Twitter which has had a tip jar feature since early May. Recently, it also added the ability for users to send and receive Bitcoin Tips. The monetization features and tips come as companies look for ways to keep creator content on their platforms.
