Calls Global Warming A Real Threat, Megawati: I'm Not Scared

JAKARTA - PDI-P General Chair Megawati Soekarnoputri said that global warming is an issue that must be of concern to all parties. Moreover, there are many natural signs that agree that this condition is indeed happening.

One of the conditions mentioned is the melting of ice at the North Pole and South Pole. According to Mega, this ice is not only melted but is cut and has an impact in other countries such as in Bhutan.

"The ice was broken and in the Bhutan area, the Himalayas, there was a lake consisting of ice. So UNESCO has always observed it. That if one day cracks, this is a disaster for Bhutan. It could be that part of Bhutan is submerged," Megawati said at the time. opened the 'Lanina, Phenomenon and Impact' Disaster Training event held by the PDIP Disaster Management Agency (Baguna), Wednesday, October 27.

"I'm not telling this with the intention of frightening, no. This is as a knowledge of us. Why can't we think normally anymore. It feels like it's already SOS," added the 5th President of the Republic of Indonesia.

Given this condition, Megawati then reminded regional heads that they have a big role to play in preventing disasters that often occur due to negligence.

"Actually, what is called a natural disaster is due to negligence, including from regional leaders who do not respond. That (natural disaster, ed) is actually at least unavoidable with the help of technology, and human awareness itself," he asserted.

Megawati said that she often spoke about disasters not for a specific purpose. However, he wants all parties to be aware and able to cope with disasters that can strike at any time.

"Let's work together, for example, how to change spatial planning," he said.

United States Vice President Al Gore as Mega's interlocutor in the dialogue session once said that Indonesia is a country that is prone to disasters because it is located in the Pacific Ring of Fire. Al Gore even showed Megawati a map of predictions and potential disasters.

"Look, there will be a disaster, Mega. If not all of his awareness (awareness, ed) is strong, his awareness is strong from all over the world, (then it will be destroyed, ed). So it's not just talk. ? Due to global warming, he said.

So he advised all parties to always be vigilant. Moreover, disasters often bring financial losses, as Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani said to herself.

"Please, I don't want to be pretentious. I want to share my experience. That this can actually be done (we anticipate, ed) as long as we work together,"

"Before a disaster occurs, so prevention and post-disaster have been planned, then organized," said Megawati.
