Bobby Nasution Asks BPBD To Focus On Anticipating Medan Floods

MEDAN - Medan Mayor Bobby Nasution asked the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) to also focus on anticipating and dealing with flood disasters.

"Together, we will continue to try to prevent and deal with flooding issues. We have to suppress the height of the inundation, the area of the inundation, and the intensity of the inundation. And public safety remains number one," said Bobby Nasution when he was the advisor for the Medan City Disaster Preparedness Day (HKB) 2021, Sunday, October 24, quoted from the Medan City Government Communications and Information Office.

At the event which was also attended by the Chairman of the Medan PKK TP, Kahiyang Ayu Bobby Nasution, the Mayor of Medan reminded the importance of anticipating and early detection in disaster management. He said that the information he received was likely to increase in rainfall.

In the rally which was also attended by Forkopimda elements, the Head of the Regional Disaster Management Agency, Muhammad Husni including volunteers, Bobby Nasution also hoped that the commemoration of Disaster Preparedness Day was not just a ceremony.

“Ready to survive, we take care of nature, take care of us”, continued Bobby Nasution emphasizing.

"We will interpret this theme with real actions. Prepare yourself and educate the public to respond to disasters," Bobby Nasution said.

This event was also filled with mutual assistance in cleaning and lifting garbage from Siombak Lake by deploying dozens of rubber boats.

Before the mutual cooperation began, Bobby Nasution accompanied by Kahiyang Ayu provided assistance with cleaning equipment as well as assistance to tornado victims.

In addition, Bobby Nasution reviewed disaster management and evacuation equipment. In addition, Bobby Nasution and Kahiyang Ayu also reviewed the MSME products displayed at the event.

"We really have to integrate all potentials and collaborate in preventing and dealing with disasters," said the head of the Medan BPBD, Muhammad Husni.

"That's why today we build collaboration in disaster management. And the city of Medan must be the trigger in this unification and collaboration. Thank God, the agreement is in place. Both from the provincial government, Basarnas, BPBD Medan, and we will expand this," he continued.

Husni said this early detection, as reminded by the Mayor of Medan, would be a concern. Disaster management is not only carried out when a disaster occurs, but from pre-disaster, post-disaster, including mitigation.

"This is a system that we are trying to unify. We believe that if we can collaborate and unite the strengths of all disaster activists, Medan and North Sumatra will be able to overcome existing disasters," said Husni.

Following up on Bobby Nasution's order for BPBD to also focus on flood management, Husni said, at this early stage, before the rainfall increases, his party will open an Integrated Command Post.

"God willing, at the end of the month we will open an Integrated Command Post in the Belawan area as well as other flood-prone points. This Integrated Post builds empathy for the public. At this Command Post, all anticipation is prepared," said Husni.
