PVMBG Finds Many Cracks In Mount Abang Kintamani Bali, Climbing Temporarily Closed

BANGLI - Head of the Bali Earthquake Emergency Response Team, Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG), Kurnia Praja, said many cracks were found on the Mount Abang hiking trail, Kintamani District, Bangli Regency, Bali.

"It goes to the top of the rift along the hiking trail. There are a lot of them while there are 4 large points. There are already 30 meters long, some 40 meters", Kurnia said when contacted, Friday, October 22.

According to him, some cracks are quite large and sinking. It is feared that landslides could occur if it rains or earthquake tremors occur.

“The crack is big and has subsided. That landslide can occur let alone rain and if there is vibration it can cause landslides. That's why it's dangerous", he added.

Kurnia said that the potential for cracks had been detected for a long time so that there was a potential for landslides in the event of an earthquake. Like the anticipation of a dangerous thing, climbing on Mount Abang to be closed temporarily. While the cracks will be covered with clay.

"Meanwhile, those in Abang for climbing are closed first because it is dangerous. If you want to engineer it first, you want to close the cracks with clay, the important thing is that water doesn't get in or it will slide. The day after tomorrow maybe with volunteers of all kinds (covered by avalanches) and urgently requires a pattern of equipment preparation and so on", he said.

"The important thing is that you cannot enter and be taken there are settlements that are dangerous", said Kurnia.
