Bobby Nasution Wants Green Open Spaces In Medan To Be Expanded, DPRD: Needs A Budget Of IDR 90 Trillion

MEDAN - The Regional Representative Council (DPRD) of Medan City, North Sumatra, said that a budget of around IDR 90 trillion is needed to fulfill green open space (RTH) of 30 percent of the area of Medan City. This plan was previously put forward by the Mayor of Medan Bobby Nasution, including through the revitalization of Merdeka Square.

"To fulfill only 20 percent of the green open space, you must have a budget of IDR 90 trillion with an estimated IDR 2 million per meter," said Chairman of the Special Committee for spatial plans (RTRW) of the Medan City DPRD, Dedy Akhsyari Nasution in Medan, quoted by Antara, Friday, October 22.

This was revealed when his party held a meeting to discuss the revision of the Special Committee for the 2021-2031 RTRW, which questioned the commitment of the Medan City Government to realize the green open space earlier this week.

20 percent of the land, he continued, is public green open space, while 10 percent of private green open space out of a total of 30 percent green open space as stipulated in Law No. 26/2007 on Spatial Planning.

"We provide details of the land needs and budget, so that they are considered while still accommodating the interests of the community at large," said Dedy.

The head of the Medan City Development Planning Agency at Sub-National Level (Bappeda), Benny Iskandar, admitted that currently the Medan City Government only has five hectares of green open space from the area of Medan City of around 26.510 hectares.

He said, of course, to fulfill 20 percent of public green open space, another 15 percent, or around 4.000 hectares, according to regulations.

"The Medan City Government to issue a budget for the purchase of residents' land to be used as green open space is only IDR 50 billion per year. So there is an additional land area in a year that can only be planned for five to 10 hectares," he said.
