The UK Knows Obesity Is More Deadly Than COVID-19
JAKARTA - What is more deadly than COVID-19? Recent research answers that question. The answer: obesity.
In Britain, government authorities immediately launched a campaign against obesity. The campaign was launched Monday, 27 July.
The government began banning fast food-related advertising on television and various online platforms before 9:00 p.m. The government is also abolishing any "buy one get one" promotion on high calorie foods.
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson admits that he has personal concerns about this. Boris said the British citizens looked fatter than many citizens of other countries in Europe.
Boris, who once had a chubby body, has now lost a lot of weight since being treated for COVID-19. He invited British citizens to pay more attention to body health by maintaining body weight.
"So they can control their own future by losing weight. Then become active and adopt a healthier lifestyle, "said Boris. Quoted by Reuters, Monday, July 27.
"Losing weight is difficult. But, with a few small changes we can all feel fitter and healthier. If we all do our part, we can reduce our health risks and protect ourselves from COVID-19," he added.
Likewise, British Health Minister Matt Hancock revealed 60 percent of adults in the UK are experiencing the problem of being overweight. A very serious problem, he said. Even Public Health England puts the fight against obesity a priority.
"Everyone knows how difficult it is to lose weight so we are taking bold action to help everyone who needs it," said Hancock.
"To help support them not to gain weight, we need to reduce influences, such as promoting and advertising high-calorie and fat foods. At the same time, the campaign will be supported by other efforts to make British citizens healthier, "Hancock.
