The Prosecutor General's Allegation Issues Bribed By Papuan Prosecutors, LBH: Do Not Destroy The Dignity Of The Prosecutor's Office!

JAKARTA - The Papuan Legal Aid Institute (LBH) has questioned the professionalism of the Indonesian Attorney General's Office regarding the alleged case of rogue prosecutors in Papua.

This was in response to a statement from Papuan Anti-Corruption Activist, Rafael Ambrauw, regarding the news that the Attorney General was suspected of receiving bribes from unscrupulous prosecutors at the Papua High Prosecutor's Office.

The prosecutor was previously suspected of extorting money by asking for a government project in Papua Province. Responding to the allegations, the Director of LBH Papua, Emanuel Gobay said that if the reports and evidence were true, then the professionalism of Attorney General ST Burhanuddin should be questioned.

"What is certain is that this fact was then questioned over the attitude of the Attorney General who allowed the possibility of a complaint with the available evidence to actually happen," said the man who is familiarly called Edo to reporters, Sunday, October 17.

According to him, to ensure that, ST Burhanuddin, through the Attorney General for Supervision (Jamwas) should be able to follow up on the allegations immediately.

"So that later we can prove whether it is true or not, that is the first. The second, regardless of whether it has not been followed up on whether it is proven or not, what is certain is that if there is a fact, this certainly reflects the professionalism of the prosecutor's office which is very damaged," he said.

With the reputation of the public prosecutor being damaged, according to him, it is feared that the function of law enforcement in the context of public prosecution will weaken.

"If the weakness is like that, it reflects that all this time there has been extortion carried out against citizens who are then prosecuted in court," he said.

"It will have a bad impact on citizens who expect justice from high state institutions that are specially formed to uphold the principle of justice for citizens," he said.

Thus, continued Edo, the enforcement of this law is very important so that it can then provide a deterrent effect for prosecutors who are naughty personally. Furthermore, it can also provide lessons for other prosecutors not to do the same thing.

"We as law enforcers, in this case, providing free legal aid to the community, the marginalized poor and blind to the law, hope that the attorney general of the Republic of Indonesia can improve the professionalism of their prosecutors. which is under the Papua High Prosecutor's Office," he said.

Because, continued Edo, we advocate or provide legal assistance to the marginalized and legally blind poor, where they will go through the process as regulated in the criminal justice system to get justice.

"Therefore, the prosecutor as a public prosecutor, his mentality, professionalism will then have a negative impact on our clients, who are the marginalized and law-illiterate communities in Papua," said Edo.

He also hoped that Jamwas, who had received the complaint, could follow up the process.

"This is solely to fix the professionalism of the prosecutors under the Papua High Prosecutor's Office and below," he said.

Previously, Papuan Anti-Corruption Activist, Rafael Ambrauw, suspected that the Indonesian Attorney General's Office was "in the wind" for the case of a rogue prosecutor at the Papua High Prosecutor's Office, who was suspected of extorting money by requesting a government project in Papua Province.

"We suspect that the Attorney General of the Republic of Indonesia has received bribes from unscrupulous prosecutors at the Papua High Court. In fact, our report a few weeks ago had strong evidence and this is physical work in the field. However, until now there is no clarity on the process against this rogue prosecutor," said Rafael, Wednesday, October 13, 2021.

Rafael said that from the results of the demonstration carried out by the Papuan Anti-Corruption Alliance, the Indonesian Attorney General's Office stated that in a case like this there was no compromise so that it would still be processed.

"With this commitment, we question the firmness of the Indonesian Attorney General's Office. Don't just talk in front of the public, but in fact, it is nonsense. If that happens, it means that the attorney general has caught a cold or has received from unscrupulous prosecutors in Papua," he said.

He said that the actions of rogue prosecutors in Papua had damaged the image of the prosecutor's office and destroyed the system in law enforcement in Papua, so that he did not want rogue prosecutors in Papua.
