Governor Anies: His Commitment Wants To Make Jakarta A Climate Resistant City

JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor, Anies Baswedan, targets the capital city to become a climate-resilient city through the implementation of the Regional Low Carbon Development Plan (RPRKD).

"DKI Jakarta is the first province in Indonesia to have an RPRKD by the mandate of the 2020-2024 National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN)", Anies said in Jakarta, quoted by Antara, Friday, October 15.

To accommodate the plan, he issued Governor Regulation No. 90 of 2021 concerning RPRKD.

Governor Anies added that the RPRKD is a manifestation of DKI's ambitious commitment and active contribution to achieving Indonesia's National Determined Contribution (NDC).

The RPRKD is also by the Paris Agreement, which is the global agenda for dealing with climate change.

Jakarta, he said, carried out a comprehensive innovation with climate change mitigation and adaptation actions implemented in a balanced manner, considering that climate change adaptation actions have often been forgotten.

In addition, mainstreaming the issue of climate change and regional development has become the spirit of the formulation of this regulation.

"The commitment is to make Jakarta a climate-resilient city", he said.

Anies targets to reduce Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions by 30 percent and are ambitious to be able to reduce direct GHG emissions by 50 percent by 2030 and zero emissions by 2050.

Jakarta is also committed to increasing the community's adaptive capacity in dealing with climate disasters by reducing the number of areas or areas that are categorized as vulnerable and highly vulnerable to climate disasters.

He explained that the RPRKD is a comprehensive regional level regulation, containing climate change actions that integrate mitigation and adaptation actions in DKI Jakarta.

"For the first time, through this plan, climate change adaptation actions are regulated in a legal product", said Anies.
