Nintendo Denies Rumors Of Working On A 4K Switch Version, But Doesn't Rule Out The Possibility Of Being Interested
JAKARTA - After some time ago it was reported that the Nintendo Switch 4K would be released, the company firmly denied that they had no plans to launch this version of the product.
Previously, Bloomberg claimed several developers were working on a game for such a device. At least 11 companies have been given the tools to create 4K Switch titles, including several studios that have never made a console game before.
"A news report on September 30, 2021 falsely claimed that Nintendo was supplying tools to encourage game development for Nintendo Switch with 4K support. To ensure proper understanding among our investors and customers, we would like to clarify that this report is not true," Nintendo said. .
According to Game Developer, Friday, October 1, the only new Switch model in the works is the officially announced OLED version, and it's launching on October 8.
"We would also like to restate that, as we announced in July, we have no plans for a new model other than the Nintendo Switch - the OLED model, which will launch on October 8, 2021," Nintendo said.
However, judging by how quickly Nintendo responded to the situation, it seems that the Japanese-based gaming giant wants to quell rumors of a 4K Switch before they are really interested in working on this version of the Switch.
But before the OLED Switch officially launched, several reports surfaced where Nintendo was working on a Switch featuring AI-based rendering technology, Nvidia Deep Learning Super Sampling, 4K support, and a larger OLED display.
A person familiar with Nintendo's hardware plans also said the company decided to rule out 4K support due to the ongoing chip crisis.
Since Bloomberg published the article, Zynga, which is one of the studios named in the report, has officially denied having a 4K development kit.
While it's possible that Nintendo will be working on a new device again, it's more likely that it will be the 4K Switch. This could be an entirely new console possibly the Switch Pro, like the X Series and PS5, but it won't be a variant of the current generation of devices.
