Ridwan Kamil Designs Jeans From Plastic Bottle Waste

BANDUNG - Governor of West Java (Jabar) M Ridwan Kamil designed recycled jeans made by a local brand from Bandung, Bespoke Project.

The pants were made using plastic bottle waste material and the results of the collaboration he uploaded through his personal Instagram account @ridwankamil.

"So I collaborated to design jeans with the Bespoke Project to help West Java MSMEs made from recycled plastic bottle waste," said Ridwan Kamil in Bandung, quoted by Antara, Wednesday, September 29.

This collaboration is a social movement initiated by Ridwan Kamil and local brand owners so that they can rise from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. The program was named Inilokal Inikolaborasi.

The design of the jeans has a bi-color gradient theme with a touch of Mega Mendung pattern in the pocket.

"The jeans design theme is my favorite Mega Mendung pattern duotone gradation. I've worn it and it's very comfortable even though it's jeans but it doesn't interfere with my mobility, it's just comfortable to wear," said the man who is familiarly called Kang Emil.

He also invited the community to help local MSME actors by buying these products. "Let's buy, let's buy and let's support the MSME economy while saving the environment," he said.

In addition to jeans, there are a number of similar collaboration products that can be ordered through lokapasar or via Instagram @inilokalinikolaborasi.

In addition to pants, there are also other products such as helmets, wooden watches, men's Muslim clothes, to jackets and all products are the design of Ridwan Kamil with local brand owners.

"And I am touched that the products are cool, extraordinary, not cans. The process is fun. When I was a lecturer criticizing and discussing it was part of perfecting the product. So I am happy because it reminds me of my identity as a designer," said Ridwan Kamil.

Moreover, he said, President Joko Widodo supports the use of local products, so he invites residents to support local products.

"And give input on what makes local products competitive with foreign products. Don't let people not buy because they feel inferior to foreign products, without telling them. Because I believe we can produce with good quality, "said Kang Emil.
