Avoid Unplanned Pregnancy, BKKBN Promotes Use Of Postpartum Contraceptives
JAKARTA - Head of the National Population and Family Planning Agency (BKKBN), Hasto Wardoyo, emphasized that the use of post-partum contraceptives must continue to be intensified to create a quality generation of the nation.
"Come on, we have to intensify the use of contraception after delivery, intervals, preparation before pregnancy so that the condition (mother) is healthy first, so use contraception," said Hasto in the event "Easy and Quality Family Planning in Only One Hand" held followed online on the BKKBN Official Youtube in Jakarta, Sunday.
Hasto said Indonesia has approximately 4.8 million to five million deliveries every year. However, the pregnancy was an unplanned pregnancy due to the large number of mothers who had not used contraception.
The unplanned pregnancy, he said, did not provide a pregnancy distance between the first and second children (birth to birth interval), so that it could create serious problems for the baby's growth and development, both physically and mentally.
Mentally, Hasto said, jealousy can occur between children, because the mother's attention is divided, both to the newborn baby, as well as the mother's own mental health. This jealousy makes the first child unhappy and will affect the first 1000 days of life (HPK).
The absence of distance between pregnancies can also raise the possibility of children suffering from mental emotional disorders (mental emotional disorders), developing autism and being affected by stunting (children born stunted).
“From there, all disturbances in the lives of 1000 HPK before the age of two greatly affect the quality of this child's future. Remember! If you don't use family planning, you don't space out your children, the impact will be very serious," he said.
As for physical problems, due to babies experiencing sub-optimal health conditions and sub-optimal nutritional conditions (sub-optimal nutritional), babies cannot grow to their maximum height, children's intelligence is disturbed and susceptible to disease.
He said mothers need not worry, because currently there are various types of contraceptives, whether hormonal or not, which can provide a number of benefits for mothers.
“Some have side effects, which are actually pleasant. Because, using contraception, there are those whose menstruation does not hurt, there are those who are slim, there are also those who use contraception, their skin can become smooth,” he said explaining the various benefits that contraception can provide at this time.
He hopes that after knowing the importance of using contraceptives and the benefits it provides, mothers can use contraceptives that can help maintain maternal health and the quality of babies born as future generations.
“That is the benefit of contraception, which I think should always be socialized at intervals. It's time for us to use contraception,” said Hasto.
