Police Arrest 11 Perpetrators Of The Death Of 5 Elephants In Aceh Jaya

BANDA ACEH - The Aceh Jaya Police Criminal Investigation Team arrested 11 perpetrators suspected of being involved in the death of five elephants in Tuwi Priya Village, Pasie Raya District, Aceh Jaya Regency.

Aceh Jaya Police Chief AKBP Harlan Amir said the police were investigating the death of 5 elephants in 2020.

On Friday 27 August 2021, the Aceh Jaya Police Criminal Investigation Team arrested seven perpetrators, namely 6 perpetrators were arrested in Gampong Tuwi Periya, Pasie Raya District, Aceh Jaya and 1 perpetrator was arrested in Banda Aceh.

AKBP Harlan explained that from the development of the investigation, the Satreskrim team of the Aceh Jaya Police again arrested four other perpetrators, including the one who sold the elephant ivory.

"In total, we arrested 11 perpetrators in this case with different roles in executing five elephants, either making a trap or taking their tusks," said the Aceh Jaya Police Chief, quoted by Antara, Wednesday, September 15.

The perpetrators arrested were HD (39), LH, (43), HI (46), SP (62), MR (32), ZB (25), MA, (38), then SD (49), AM (61 ) and 2 other people who played a role in helping to sell and buy ivory, namely IF(46), MN(68).

"This case has been disclosed for 1 year and 8 months, based on the examination the ivory was sold at a price of Rp. 3,500,000," said the Aceh Jaya Police Chief.

The suspect is subject to Article 40 paragraph (2) in conjunction with Article 21 paragraph (2) letters A and B of the Republic of Indonesia Law Number 5 of 1990 concerning the conservation of living natural resources and their ecosystems in conjunction with Article 55 of the Criminal Procedure Code with a maximum penalty of 5 years in prison.

For information, this case was handled after on January 1, 2020, the Aceh Police received information that five elephant skeletons were found in the plantation area.

Based on the results of the BKSDA team's test and evidence at the scene, the elephant died because it was entangled in a wire with an electric current.
