Makassar Mayor Danny Pomanto Reports Protesters To The Police For Defamation Of Corruption

MAKASSAR - Mayor of Makassar, Moh Ramdhan Pomanto (Danny Pomanto), through his attorney reported a protester with the initials AM to the police. The report was made because Danny Pomanto felt aggrieved by the slander of his involvement in corruption.

"The demonstration is part of the people's right to express their aspirations. But if you accuse without evidence, that's slander," said Danny Pomanto, in Makassar, quoted by Antara, Wednesday, September 15.

Danny Pomanto said the demonstration by several students at the prosecutor's office some time ago was related to the alleged corruption in the Makassar PDAM project with a value of IDR 31 billion.

Danny Pomanto stated that every citizen has the right to express his opinion, including in rallies. However, by mentioning his name and position, he was involved in a vortex of corruption, without any proof, he called it slander and defamation.

"Directly accuse, name and accuse. Mayor Danny Pomanto is involved in corruption, that's slander", he said.

He said all the allegations were baseless. Reporting is done so that they can prove what has been alleged.

"Obviously he said he was accusing and involved, this seems tendentious and someone told us. We respect that opinion, but prove it legally", said Danny Pomanto.

Makassar Mayor Moh Ramdhan Pomanto's attorney, Benny Iskandar said the report was made at the Makassar Police Station.

The report relates to alleged criminal acts of violating the Information and Electronic Transactions Law to defamation.

He said that reported AM openly said Danny Pomanto was involved in alleged corruption in the Makassar PDAM project.

"So the chronology is when the action was carried out by Brother AM, in speeches and in releases that were distributed to the media. He had already accused and mentioned the name of my client, Mr. Mohammad Ramdhan Pomanto who is also the Mayor of Makassar, who stated that he was suspected of being involved", he said.
