Meeting With Swiss Ambassador, KPK Discusses Fraud Investigations In Banking And Capital Markets

JAKARTA - The head of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) met with the Swiss Ambassador to Indonesia Kurt Kunz at the KPK's Red and White Building. This meeting was conducted as an introductory step with Firli Bahuri et al and discussed a number of further issues in cooperation in dealing with corruption.

"KPK Chair Firli Bahuri accompanied by KPK Deputy Chairs Alexander Marwata, Nurul Ghufron, and Lili Pintauli Siregar and staff from the Inter-Commission and Agencies Network Development (PJKAKI) Directorate and KPK Training and Education received a delegation from the Swiss Embassy to Indonesia to discuss strengthening cooperation in eradicating corruption", said Acting KPK Spokesperson for Prevention, Ipi Maryati told reporters, Wednesday, September 15.

Through the meeting, there were a number of things discussed in the effort to prevent corruption. The first is related to modern financial crime investigation techniques, including the investigation of corruption cases involving financial transactions abroad.

Next, detect and investigate fraud in banking and financial institutions. Third, detect and investigate fraud in the capital market. The last is related to cooperation in handling cross-border corruption investigations and mutual assistance in efforts to handle cases.

"On this occasion, the two parties also discussed several topics related to the focus and priorities of the KPK as well as the challenges of eradicating corruption in Indonesia", said Ipi.

Furthermore, the KPK also expressed appreciation for the support of Switzerland in an effort to increase employee capacity.

This happened because in 2018, Switzerland through the International Center of Asset Recovery (ICAR) provided training on financial investigations and asset recovery, money laundering using bitcoin, abuse of offshore companies, and corruption in infrastructure and procurement.

"The potential for increased cooperation between Indonesia and Switzerland is based on the agreement on Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters between the Government of Indonesia and the Swiss Confederation signed in 2019", explained Ipi.

"So, law enforcement officials such as the KPK can use this agreement as a basis for sending requests for mutual legal assistance to the Swiss state if needed", he concluded.
