Fire, DPR Leader Asks Apparatus To Move Quickly To Restore Tangerang Prison Situation

JAKARTA - The leadership of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) has asked the authorities to immediately investigate the fire at the Tangerang Class I Penitentiary, which resulted in the death of 41 inmates. An investigation is needed to immediately restore the situation in Tangerang prison.

"We ask law enforcement officials to move quickly to restore the situation," said Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, Wednesday, September 8.

According to Dasco, treatment must be given to other survivors, especially psychological assistance. However, all are currently focusing on evacuating the dead and injured.

"It is also necessary to psychologically assist the prisoners who are safe but still in a traumatic condition," said the daily chairman of the Gerindra Party DPP.

Dasco also asked the Ministry of Law and Human Rights to evaluate mitigation plans in all prisons in the face of extraordinary events, such as this fire. Not only in Tangerang prison.

"For handling the fire system so that things like this don't happen again," he said.

Previously, the Minister of Law and Human Rights (Menkumham) Yasonna Laoly strengthened the provisional suspicion that the cause of the Tangerang Class I prison fire was due to an electrical short circuit.

The reason is, since the building was built and operated, no electrical installation repairs have been carried out.

"This Tangerang Class I prison was built in 1972, it has been 42 years since then we have not repaired the electrical installation, there is additional power but the electricity installation is still ongoing," Yasonna told reporters, Wednesday, September 8.

However, it is emphasized that it is still only a provisional assumption. To prove this, the Police are currently carrying out investigative steps.

"However, now the Puslabfor Polri, Dircrimum Polda Metro Jaya are investigating the cause of the fire. Because we don't want to speculate," said Yasonna.
