41 Detainees Killed In Tangerang Class I Prison From Block C2

JAKARTA - The fire that occurred in the Class I Correctional Institution (Lapas) Tangerang is said to have originated from block C2. Where, on the block there are several detention rooms.

"Now what is burning is block C2," said Director General of PAS at the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, Reinhard Silitonga, to reporters, Wednesday, September 8.

In block C2, continued Reinhard, there is a hall and nine detention rooms. It is in the detention rooms that the dead prisoners are placed. However, it has not been confirmed where the first hotspots will be.

"So it was in this block that the initial short circuit (short circuit) allegedly occurred," he said.

While regarding the availability of a light fire extinguisher (APAR) that can be used for the first step to extinguish the fire, Reinhard did not comment much. He confirmed that he would look into the matter.

"We are investigating why there were 41 victims, we should not suspect that we are investigating," said Reinhard. As a result of the fire, 41 inmates died.

In addition, it was recorded that 8 inmates suffered serious injuries and 72 inmates suffered minor injuries. They have been taken to the clinic for treatment.

So far, the cause of the fire is still being investigated. However, it is suspected that the cause was an electric short circuit.
