BNPB Notes: From January 1 To September 1,829 Natural Disasters Occurred Throughout Indonesia
JAKARTA - The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) said there were 1,829 natural disasters in Indonesia from January 1 to September 5, 2021.
Based on BNPB data received by Antara in Jakarta on Sunday, September 5, it was recorded that Indonesia experienced 750 floods, 477 extreme weather events, 346 landslides and 206 forest and land fires.
A number of areas of the country have also been hit by tidal waves and abrasion 22 times, hit by drought five times and rocked by earthquakes 23 times.
The areas that experienced the most natural disasters were West Java 464 times, East Java 191, Central Java 183 times, Aceh 146 times and Riau 70 times.
These natural disasters have caused a number of impacts, namely 5,882,843 people were forced to evacuate, 510 people died, 70 people were missing and 12,883 people were injured.
In addition to taking lives, buildings and public facilities were also affected. A total of 129,649 houses were damaged, of which 15,962 houses were severely damaged, 23,381 houses were moderately damaged and 90,306 houses were lightly damaged.
A total of 2,972 public facilities were damaged, with details of 1,386 educational facilities, 1,234 places of worship and 352 health facilities.
BNPB also stated that as many as 497 offices and 329 bridges were also damaged due to the impact of a number of natural disasters that have hit Indonesia. Not only experiencing natural disasters, Indonesia is also facing non-natural disasters, namely the spread of the COVID-19 virus. Previously, COVID-19 had been declared a national disaster by the government since April 13, 2020.
