Tiger Woods Golf Putter Used To Practice And Experiment During The 2002 Season Sold For IDR 5.7 Billion
JAKARTA - Tiger Woods' backup putter from the sensational 2002 season has sold for $393,300, according to Golden Age Golf Auctions.
The price paid for the Scotty Cameron putter, according to reports, makes it the most expensive golf equipment ever sold.
The putter is specially manufactured by Cameron for Woods and comes with a letter of authenticity.
Woods won five tournaments, including the Masters and US Open, in 2002.
Fifteen-time major tournament champion Woods practiced and experimented with the putter but did not use it in competition, according to auction house Golden Age Golf Auctions.
"There are just a few pieces of sports memorabilia that we believe will be collected over the centuries - Babe Ruth's baseball bat; Muhammad Ali's boxing gloves; Michael Jordan's basketball shoes," the auction house said. August.
"For golf, there is one item we will add to the list above - Tiger Woods' Scotty Cameron putter."
The putter that Woods used for most of the 15 major championships he won is still in the hands of the 45-year-old, and would fetch millions of dollars if it were to go up for auction, the auction house said.
A spare putter of a different design used by Woods sold for $155,000 more than a year ago.
Woods is currently still recovering from the leg injury he sustained in a car crash in February near Los Angeles.
