Atletico Madrid Vs Elche 1-0: Angel Correa's Single Goal Wins Los Colchoneros

JAKARTA - Atletico Madrid won full points in a narrow 1-0 win over Elche in the second week of La Liga at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium on Monday morning.

As reported by Antara from the Spanish League page, the only goal in this match was scored by Argentine striker Angel Correa after Atletico did not immediately field Luis Suarez and Kieran Trippier.

The first half was tight and without Suarez, it was difficult for Atletico to break down Elche's defense. In the 7th minute, Saul Niguez came close to scoring for the hosts when his shot went narrowly wide of goal.

Elche himself took advantage of the counter-attack, but Atletico did not provide an opening by applying high pressure.

The hosts finally scored in the 39th minute when Angel Correa received an assist from compatriot Rodrigo de Paul.

Correa caught the ball past goalkeeper Kiko Casilla and with little control, he slotted the ball into Elche's net.

In the second half, Atletico came close to doubling their lead in the 49th minute when Gimenez's header that saw Koke's corner was parried by Casilla.

Five minutes later, Carrasco came close to scoring a second but Casilla made a brilliant save this time.

The result makes Atletico temporarily top the Spanish League standings with a collection of six points from two matches. Elche is ranked 16th with one point.

In another La Liga match two hours earlier, hosts Real Sociedad beat Rayo Vallecano 1-0 thanks to Mikel Oyarzabal's only goal from the penalty spot in the 68th minute.
