Roma Vs Fiorentina 3-1: Veretout Brings The Giallorossi To The First Victory Of The Mourinho Era

JAKARTA - Two goals from Jordan Veretout gave AS Roma a 3-1 win over former club Fiorentina in their season opener on Sunday local time.

The victory was also Jose Mourinho's first victory as a Serie A coach in a match where both teams had to play down to 10 men.

According to Antara, Fiorentina goalkeeper Bartlomiej Dragowski was shown a straight red card for fouling Roma new signing Tammy Abraham in the 17th minute which left visiting coach Vincenzo Italiano confused.

Roma took advantage of the excess in the match at the Stadio Olimpico when Henrikh Mkhitaryan broke the deadlock in the 26th minute. The hosts also entered the second half with a position to dictate the game.

The situation turned around when Nicolo Zaniolo, who returned to play after more than a year out with a long injury, was instead shown a second yellow card.

He was sent off just after the break before Nikola Milenkovic equalized in the 60th minute.

Even in score and in numbers, Roma stepped up the tempo with Mkhitaryan feeding Veretout to restore the hosts' lead before the Frenchman made it 3-1 eleven minutes from time.
