August 22 COVID Update: Positive Increases By 12,408, Decreases By 4,000 Cases Compared To Yesterday

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) released the latest additional positive cases of COVID-19, Sunday, August 22 at 12.00 western Indonesia time. There was an addition of 12,408 cases. This rate is lower than the record on Saturday, August 21, 2021, as many as 16,744 cases.

The report also revealed that the daily cure rate increased by 24,276 people with a mortality rate of 1,030 cases.

In detail, the largest increase in positive cases occurred in East Java with a record 1,301 cases. This figure reflects the area in the eastern part of Java Island that accounts for more than 10 percent of all confirmed cases today nationally.

Followed by West Java with 1,192 cases, North Sumatra with 1,002 cases, Central Java with 822 cases, and DI Yogyakarta with 783 cases.

Meanwhile, for areas with the most healing, East Java with 2,682 people, West Java with 1,830 people, Central Java with 1,385 people, and Yogyakarta with 1,123 people.

Then, the highest death rate was in Central Java with 317 cases, East Java with 203 cases, West Java with 59 cases, and Bali with 52 cases.

In terms of vaccination, it was recorded that 57,339,307 people received phase I vaccine with a special addition today of 353,157 people.

Then, for the second phase of the vaccine, it is known that it has been distributed to 31,601,868 people with the addition of 390,946 people. Meanwhile, the vaccination target targeted by the government for the current period is 208,265,720 doses.

Recently, the Spokesperson for the COVID-19 Task Force, Wiku Adisasmito, announced that in the near future millions of doses of the Pfizer brand of COVID-19 vaccine will arrive in Indonesia.

"Today, the Indonesian government plans to receive as many as one and a half million doses of the vaccine for Pfizer," Wiku said on the Presidential Secretariat's Youtube video, Thursday, August 19.

Wiku said that Pfizer's vaccine had received an emergency use authorization (EUA) from the Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM) in mid-July.

Based on data from manufacturers according to the World Health Organization (WHO) and clinical trial results, the Pfizer vaccine has been shown to be 95 percent effective against COVID-19. Wiku said that the arrival of the Pfizer vaccine can be used for people aged 12 years and over.

"Local governments who will receive Pfizer vaccine allocations are requested to be able to use them immediately so that people in their areas can be protected and increase the coverage of the vaccination program," said Wiku.
