Reading The Reasons For President Jokowi To Go Down The Mountain Reminds The Public To Obey Health Protocols
JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo reminded the public to apply health protocols in their daily lives to prevent the spread of COVID-19. This warning was carried out when people began to ignore the spread of this virus.
In a press conference, President Joko Widodo said the threat of the COVID-19 virus in Indonesia had not ended. This is because the addition of new COVID-19 cases continues to occur in Indonesia and has not shown a decline. In fact, he said, positive cases continued to increase in a number of provinces, without mentioning the province's name.
"In the last few days, the number of positive cases of COVID has increased in several regions and one, two, three provinces have high positive numbers," Jokowi said, Wednesday, June 24.
"Therefore, it is the community who plays a major role in reducing the number of cases and preventing the spread of COVID," he stressed.
Thus, the former governor of DKI Jakarta asked the public to continue to be disciplined in carrying out health protocols and recommendations from the government such as maintaining distance, using masks, avoiding crowds, and also washing hands diligently.
He also asked the public to remind each other to remain disciplined in carrying out health protocols in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. So that the transmission of this virus can be controlled immediately.
Jokowi may remind the public to comply with health protocols. But in fact, many people have started to ignore this health protocol.
This can be seen how full the car free day is on Sunday, June 21 in the Jalan Sudirman-Thamrin area. At that time, people seemed to forget what health protocols were to maintain distance and not crowd.
In the immediate environment, too. Many begin to forget to use masks when traveling, forget to keep their distance when queuing at the convenience store, or forget other health protocols.
Then why do people now seem disobedient to the government's appeal? UIN sociologist Tantan Hermansyah said this disobedience could have happened because of the government's own actions.
"Disobedience is present to undermine the trust of the people in the government. Why not believe it? Because the government itself has built up this distrust," said Tantan when contacted by VOI, Thursday, June 25.
Tantan highlighted Jokowi's statement asking the public to comply with health protocols. According to him, there are several things that can be read from the statement.
"First, this statement shows that the country, in this case the government, is already overwhelmed by the problem of the COVID-19 pandemic," he said.
This is because, despite implementing various scenarios such as large-scale social restrictions (PSBB), massive social distancing campaigns, the existence of an integrated information center, and various other things in an effort to stop the spread of COVID-19, in fact, they have no significant impact.
Second, he considered that Jokowi's statement could have emerged because he saw the behavior of people who did not follow health protocols. As a result, the spread of this virus continues. "So that in this case the government asks for community participation," he said.
Finally, Jokowi said, the statement that the public should take part in fighting COVID-19 could be aimed at academics and community leaders to help the government.
According to Tantan, if the latter assumption is correct, then this will be an auto criticism for the government. "Because many programs are aimed instead of showing strength, the ones that exist are not synergistic," he said.
"In fact, some people think that the government is currently working independently," he added.
Previously, the Task Force for the Acceleration of Handling COVID-19 announced an increase in the number of COVID-19 cases in Indonesia as of Wednesday, June 24, reaching 1,113 patients. So that the total accumulated positive cases of COVID-19 in Indonesia amounted to 49,009 people.
Then, the number of patients who died today increased by 38 people, bringing it to 2,573 patients. There were an additional 417 patients recovered, bringing the total to 19,658 patients.
The highest number of new cases today is in East Java Province with 183 cases, bringing the total to 10,298 people. Then, the second largest province is in DKI Jakarta with an increase of 158 cases and the total to 10,404 cases. Even so, the accumulated number of COVID-19 cases in DKI is still the highest.
Furthermore, South Sulawesi with an increase of 132 cases and a total of 4,062 cases, North Maluku with an increase of 95 cases and a total of 465, and South Kalimantan with an increase of 90 cases and a total of 2,685 cases.
Government spokesman for the handling of COVID-19 Achmad Yurianto said this high increase occurred because there were still sources of transmission in the community.
"There are positive cases that do not have significant symptoms that make you feel safe and healthy, these are not realized and are still vulnerable groups who do not comply with health protocols," said Yuri in a press conference broadcast on the BNPB YouTube account.
In addition, this addition occurred due to the increased implementation of specimen testing. He explained, the number of specimens examined today reached 21,233. So that accumulatively there have been 689,492 specimens examined using the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) method or the molecular rapid test (TCM) based.
