Entered The Trusted Informant Category After Doctor-President, Minister Of Religion Asks Religious Leaders To Become Prokes Models

JAKARTA - Minister of Religion Yaqut Cholil Qoumas invites religious leaders to be role models in obeying health protocols (prokes) to prevent COVID-19.

"As religious leaders, they should convey to their respective followers, they can be role models and remind the public to always improve health procedures compliance, especially wearing masks," he said during an online discussion on Nationality of Religions monitored from Jakarta, Antara, Wednesday, August 18.

According to a survey conducted by the Research and Development Agency of the Ministry of Religion in 2020, the public considers religious leaders to be a reliable source of information about COVID-19 and vaccinations after doctors and the president.

Minister of Religion Yaqut believes that so far religious leaders have done a lot to support efforts to prevent and control COVID-19.

"Religious leaders are not tired of educating their people to continue to obey health protocols and vaccinations," he said.

He encouraged religious leaders to convey religious orders regarding the priority of maintaining the safety of themselves and others, including wearing masks, keeping a distance and diligently maintaining cleanliness. It is undeniable that the voices of religious leaders are listened to by the public.

"The role of religious leaders is very important, especially to fight the flood of information about the pandemic which is often inconsequential," said Yaqut.
