At RI's 76th Anniversary Ceremony, Anies Asks DKI Residents To Get Rid Of Differences To Find Common Ground In Facing COVID
JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Bawedan asked all his citizens to prioritize safety during the COVID-19 pandemic. He conveyed this when he was the inspector of the flag-raising ceremony in the context of the 76th Indonesian Independence Day at the DKI Jakarta City Hall, Central Jakarta, today.
"Let's put safety as a common priority. Get rid of differences, look for commonalities, look for togetherness," said Anies, Tuesday, August 17.
He asked the public to learn about the struggle of the Indonesian people when they achieved independence. Then, the declaration of independence was not made by a group of people, but by the whole community who had felt the pressure of colonialism for hundreds of years.
Until finally, the Youth Pledge was read on October 28, 1928 and the Indonesian people won independence for 17 years after that. Anies said the 17-year journey required strong stamina to withstand the forces of colonialism.
"17 years is short when we read about it in history books, 5 minutes, 10 minutes, it's over. But, those who have lived are very long. 17 years requires extraordinary stamina," said Anies.
Today, said Anies, the next generation in this republic is faced with the challenge of a pandemic that requires long stamina similar to the old colonial era.
"Therefore, let us show that this Republic still has fighters like the fighters who pioneered independence. We are currently struggling to face challenges that are not small. Therefore, we show that at the 17 August 1945 commemoration which is commemorated 76 years later, we will be able to overcome all of this," he concluded.
