Police Reveal Fraud Mode Promises To Become Civil Servants, Perpetrators Raise Billions Of Rupiah

SUKOHARJO - Sukoharjo Police, Central Java revealed a case of fraud and embezzlement of money in losses reaching billions of rupiah promising to become Civil Servants (PNS) to victims.

The police arrested the suspect Joko Sudarmawan (52). The perpetrator is currently being questioned at the Sukoharjo Police Headquarters for legal proceedings.

Sukoharjo Police Chief AKBP Wahyu Nugroho Setiawan said the suspect in the fraud and embezzlement case, Joko Sudarmawan, was a former village head in Magetan. He was arrested on Sunday, August 8th.

In addition, the police also collected a number of evidences as many as 22 receipts of money deposits to the perpetrators from November 30, 2018 to March 26, 2021 with a total loss of Rp. 5.181 billion. Each deposit receipt varies in size from Rp. 12 million to Rp. 835 million.

"The suspect is suspected of committing fraud and/or embezzlement by promising to become a civil servant with a total loss of Rp. 5.181 billion for victims, which was carried out between 2018 and 2021," said the Police Chief, quoted by Antara, Tuesday, August 10.

The police chief explained that the chronology of the fraud case and the deployment began with the suspect Joko Sudarmawan wanting to get acquainted with victim Dul Gani (58) through his adopted son, Suharti, on November 13, 2018.

The suspect promised to enter civil servants at the Office of the National Narcotics Agency (BNN), the National Land Agency (BPN), the State Treasury Service Office (KPPN), the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub), the Ministry of Religion (Kemenag), and the District Attorney's Office (Kejari). within one year. The condition is to pay a certain amount of money.

The victim then gave money to the suspect in cash twice on May 10, 2019 for IDR 37 million and on March 26, 2021 for IDR 25 million. So that the total amount of money given to the perpetrators amounted to Rp. 62 million. However, after waiting for the promised time, he couldn't realize he was a civil servant.

In addition to the victim on behalf of Dulgani, it turned out that there were 52 other people who were also victims of the suspect, with a total of IDR 5.181 billion.

"From the statements of the witnesses, we searched for the whereabouts of the suspect and succeeded in arresting Joko Sudarmawan, at Perum Sapphire Residence Beji, Pemalang Regency, on Sunday (8/8), around 00.30 WIB. Sukoharjo for further processing," said the Police Chief.

For his actions, the suspect was charged with Article 378 and/or Article 372 of the Criminal Code.
