Defeat Kevin Cordon, Anthony Ginting Wins Bronze At The Tokyo Olympics

JAKARTA - Indonesia successfully secured its second medal from the Tokyo Olympics badminton after Anthony Sinisuka Ginting won the bronze determination match against Kevin Cordon of Guatemala at Musashino Forest Sport Plaza, Monday.

The bronze medal from the men's singles sector was won by the world number five after struggling for 38 minutes in two straight games 21-11, 21-13.

With this result, Ginting made the highest achievement in his badminton career by winning a medal from his inaugural Olympic event.

The 25-year-old badminton player did not experience any problems during the match. Despite playing a slow tempo, Ginting was still able to gain points from his opponent.

Compared to the semifinal match against Chen Long on Sunday, Ginting looked more relaxed in playing but still presented an attack that was difficult for his opponent to overcome.

Cordon's chances to add more points came when Ginting made a mistake, as happened in the second game when Ginting's strokes and returns hit the net twice in a row.

Apart from that, Ginting consistently held full initiative to seal the victory and dashed Guatemala's hopes of bringing home a second medal in Olympic badminton.

In the final match for the gold medal, Chen Long still had a match against world number two Viktor Axelsen from Denmark.
