Wulling Mini EV Is Predicted To Open Indonesia's Electric Car Market
Jakarta – Sales of electric vehicles, which are booming in the world, will soon penetrate Indonesia. Especially if Wuling Hong Guang Mini EV, a car manufacturer from China, will sell their cheap electric car products to Indonesia. Reportedly, the Wulling Mini Ev, a small electric-powered car from China, will enter the Indonesian market next year.
From a number of videos, the tiny electric car, which has a very friendly price, is thought to have entered Indonesia. This can be seen from the previously circulating 4 minute 33 second video uploaded by the Lukman Avengers YouTube account on Monday, July 26. A compact car looks similar to the Wuling Hong Guang Mini EV.
The population of electric cars in Indonesia is currently relatively small. It is estimated that there are only 400 units. In fact, currently there is no car manufacturer that produces electric cars in Indonesia. Hyundai has already expressed its desire to make electric cars in Indonesia. However, it will only be fully operational in 2023.
"Right now, what is crowded on social media, it seems as if electric cars have circulated a lot in Indonesia, but later I will show the data on how many electric cars actually exist in Indonesia," said the Director General of the Director General of Metal, Machinery, Transportation Equipment and Electronics (ILMATE) Industry. ) Ministry of Industry Taufiek Bawazier.
"What we already have (production, ed) is about 21 electric motorcycles, and 3 electric buses that can be made in Indonesia," continued Taufiek.
Hyundai is the only non-Japanese manufacturer that is preparing to produce electric cars in Indonesia. This South Korean manufacturer has also marketed its flagship electric car line up, the Ioniq and Kona EV.
"But for the (production) of the new electric car in 2022, Hyundai will build it around Cikarang, and later several manufacturers such as Wuling will also enter here," he added.
The government has actually provided an umbrella for electric car investment by presenting fiscal and non-fiscal incentives as long as manufacturers can produce in Indonesia. The regulation is contained in Presidential Regulation of the Republic of Indonesia Number 55 of 2019 concerning the Acceleration of the Electric Motorized Vehicle Program.
"Of course we will encourage industry in Indonesia to use this opportunity because government policy has supported it through Presidential Decree 55 of 2019, to accelerate the use of electric cars. That's where we prioritize TKDN so that whatever is produced is actually produced domestically," he added. Taufiek.
If electric cars are really flooded in the country, it will be even more interesting to wait for the extent of public interest in using them.
