Ginting Continues To Advance In Tokyo Olympics, Challenging Danish Representative Anders Antonsen In Quarter-Final

JAKARTA - The men's singles badminton player, Anthony Sinisuka Ginting, confirmed his move to the quarter-finals of the Tokyo Olympics after defeating representative Kanta Tsuneyama on Thursday.

In the match which became their fourth meeting in the competition arena, Ginting won two straight games 21-18, 21-14 in a match that lasted 49 minutes.

This result doubled Ginting's meeting record with Tsuneyama to a 2-2 draw, where the last match occurred at the 2018 BWF World Championship which ended in defeat for the badminton player from Cimahi, West Java.

Cited from Antara, since the beginning of the match, the fifth ranked badminton player created a dominance that Tsuneyama, ranked 13th in the world couldn't overcome.

Even though he was 2-4 behind in the early interval, Ginting was able to catch up and level up quickly. The two also clashed more often in the front area of the field.

Ginting closed the first game victory through a shot that was released from the front of the net. He hit the ball horizontally which was hard to be pushed aside and hit Tsuneyama's chest.

The second game is convenient for Ginting. Tsuneyama's game worsened until he was unable to counterattack and often made mistakes.

This was used by Ginting to double the advantage until finally ending the second game in 23 minutes.

In the quarter-finals which will take place on Saturday, Ginting will face Anders Antonsen, ranked third from Denmark. In their meeting record, Ginting packed a 3-0 victory over the world number three badminton player. Their last meeting took place at the Indonesia Masters 2020 in January.
