Discourse To Eliminate The Relegation System In League 1 2020 Brings A Polemic
JAKARTA - PSSI is likely to continue the 2020 League 1 and 2 competition in September or October. A number of schemes have been prepared, including the question of eliminating relegation this season.
If this scheme is carried out, the number of teams in Liga 1 the following season will increase. The reason is, the promotion system in League 2 remains in force.
However, plans to remove the relegation system in 2020 Liga 2 have been challenged. Not a few have the view that this has the potential to violate the statute and must change it.
In article 23 of the PSSI statute, it is stated that the voting rights of the delegation in which League 1 is represented by 18 clubs, Liga 2 is 16 clubs. If the number of League 1 and 2 clubs changes, it means that the issue of the statute must also be changed in the official forum, namely the Congress.
PSSI is aware of this. According to PSSI Acting Secretary General, Yunus Nusi, the leaders and members of the PSSI Executive Committee have held discussions regarding the legality of eliminating degradation.
"PSSI as an organizer is of the view that article 23 of the latest PSSI statute (2019) does not regulate the provisions of degradation. In fact, as a whole there are no articles in the PSSI statute that regulate whether there is degradation as a result of the ranking / ranking of the final results of the match,"
PSSI Acting Secretary General, Yunus Nusi
The only degradation provision in the PSSI statute, continued Yunus Nusi, is regulated in Article 63 concerning disciplinary sanctions. That too is not the result of the final score ranking. This provision confirms that the elimination of degradation as a result of the final score ranking does not violate the PSSI statute.
The provision that could help stumble is the League 1 Article 9 Paragraph 6 regulation established by PT Liga Indonesia Baru. However, it is possible that the article could be adjusted without violating the PSSI statute.
